Tennis court can also be used for other sports, such as soccer, by removing the net. Tennis requires (exact) lines, soccer and basketball not really, so best to start with tennis court.

Building can also be used as a cinema, by simply installing a cheap beamer.

Industry rule of thumb: 15 degrees cooler than outside in summer, 15 degrees warmer in winter (without heating). <ref> http://www.signaturestructureshome.com/faq.html#g2 </ref>

== Joint screening ==

50-200 people can watch using a single large flatscreen. This reduces cost of energy, purchase and replacement. It requires a dedicated space. Some special structure should be built to protect the equipment. Watching films and television together is a great way to get to know each other.

=== Reasons for large flat screen television instead of beamer ===

A flat screen doesn't need a darkened room. Therefore it can be operated

*during the day, when energy is abundant

*outside (or only the audience outside), so less indoor space needed

[[File:Screencoveredbypvpanels.png]]

== Secluded screening ==

== Dental care ==

A significant amount of money should be kept apart (50-60%) for issues such as this one. The first 10K protect won't be able to accomplish (first rate) dental care, but should already be working to get there.

The project could already buy part of the equipment needed to set up the first dental building. In the second or third doubling, the dental building should be ready and a local dentist can be hired to work in the building full time.

With care the dentist should be taken in by the settlement so that he/she would live as one of us (a young dentist with the same ideals as us, in the case of Romania costs would be significantly lower). From that moment the building would be financed, no hire cost would be needed, energy would be financed trough solar panels and the only expenses would be dental materials such as alcohol for disinfection and amalgam for fillings.

== Television ==

Secluded screening is very costly.

== Reasons for no television ==

Saves in cost. Television is well known not to be a source for happiness.

== Reasons for television ==

Television can be important to retain a sense of connection to the outside world. Children may need the information input to optimally develop. Most people agree that they shouldn't watch television, but they do so anyway: when addicted, it is sometimes best to indulge, to overcome it. Watching television can be a way to overcome a low point, or to rest. The way to stop watching television is to get to a point where you don't want to. Using sacrifice to stop doesn't work.

== Internet ==

Ideally internet would be provided by having computers that only do internet, and that use a central computer (cloud computing, internally). They would consist only of a screen, mouse/trackpad, keyboard, wifi antenna. They would be built with durability in mind. Durability could come from simplicity, using older technologies, and choosing good parts.

Providing everybody with Ipads could be a good, easier alternative. It might be necessary to prevent people from recharging their Ipad all at the same time.

Only a small minority of people are going to need computers that can do more, and their computers need to be updated so they can learn from new technology. Money needs to be set apart to accommodate for this.

== Internet in Romania ==

Glassfiber is very cheap: 150Mbps = 10 EUR / month<ref>http://www.upc.ro/internet/</ref>

=== Have a contractor extend network ===

Glassfiber is so cheap (total 40y pp cost as low as 64 eur) that it could be warranted to let a contractor lay a cable (budget: 1-10 million).

== Drinking water ==

=== Drinking can be obtained from rainwater collection. ===

=== Through boiling salt water, if there is an ocean nearby and if a solar power tower is used for energy production. ===

== Water for hygiene ==

Hygiene may require a lot of water. Dishes, clothes and bodies have to be washed. Rivers, oceans and lakes are the obvious primitive ways.

== Water for cooking ==

Cooking kills bacteriae so cooking is at the same time purification. Water that's not consumed (when cooking macaroni for instance) could be reused as drinking water, or to make soup. Never trow cooking water away.

Cooking for three minutes kills all bacterae and viruses while cooking for five minutes kill amoebae <ref>http://www.globetrotter.nl/waterkoken.html</ref>.

This also makes soup a good way to get your daily water. Soup can be stored in the refrigerator.

== Water and automation ==

Automation in the modern world happens trough tap systems for transport, dishwashers and washing machines.

== Water collection ==

Rainwater should be collected underground, allowing for a layer of soil.

== Hygiene ==

The way modern civilization treats hygiene might not be suitable for us. Generally hygiene is energy, cost and time consuming.

== Hygiene and automation ==

=== Off grid washing machines ===

Needs to have an option where you can provide hot water yourself.

For washing with rainwater, rainwater needs to be elevated 35 meter <ref>http://wateraware.blogspot.nl/2012/03/run-your-washing-machine-on-rainwater.html</ref>.

Don't choose separate regular machine, instead professional central large capacity area's. (Clothes + Dishes = 1000 eur per 5 persons = 2,000,000 max) Area should cost approx 1 million. Needs to have a stream nearby to take away water. Don't use soap as this would harm the forest. Rainwater collection stored in solar hot water system.

Soda is a good alternative to soap.

=== Body ===

Some biologists have come to advise against using soap for bodily cleaning, because it harms the natural layer of bacteriae found on the skin and thus weakens the immune system. On the other hand soap is strongly recommended for developing countries especially after urination.

When using a washing machine, soap is harmful to the machine and is generally more for adding a fresh smell then for real cleaning.

Say 50 people were to share 1 washing machine and 1 wash dryer (think about how much you use your machine). They buy the best: 2400 total. That's 48,- per person for not having to handwash clothes for forty years! Think of everything they can do with that time (and think about how the human brain is always creating, think about the natural potential of the brain in general).

Now energy. A very good washing machine uses about 750 W [1] a good dryer about 150 W [2]. Say 1000 W. 400,- worth of solar panels gives you about 200W in good locations (south of Romania, Mid/South of Spain), to 120W in okay locations (north of Romania). Take 100 W. That's 4000 worth of solar panels. Divide by 50 = 80.

So a total of 128,- per person (88,- in sunnier locations) gives you the luxury of not having to wash, or hang clothes.. for 40 years! All that time you can engage in HIGHER things. And EVERYBODY will profit from that!

== Romania ==

The country is relatively cheap. If we can settle in an area that has glassfiber, internet would cost virtually nothing. Building the solar tower might very well be 10-30% cheaper because of lower labor costs. Romania has the fastest internet network of Europe.

Romania is hit hard by the financial crisis. We should do what we can to help the local community.

Winters can be cold. The mass concept of earthships might give us some relief.

=== Forests ===

Romania is not to densely populated and has got a lot of forest. Forests provide cooling due to their capacity to hold water. 47% of the country is covered by natural or semi natural ecosystems.

=== Spread out settlement ===

Settlement would be spread out, so people would have space.

=== Hunting ===

Hunting is allowed in certain parts in Romania, the forests are so vast that the ecosystem can support some hunting. Hunting would provide the opportunity for people to go back to their roots, it would be mentally engaging. Hunted food would taste good and be healthy.

Hunting would not use guns:

*not sustainable (too effective)

*too easy

*too dangerous

Because of his placement, Romania is situated in the European B sunlight, which gives the country a major solar potential waiting to be tapped. With 210 sunny days a year, Romania is eligible for annual energy flow between 1000 and 1300 located kWh / sqm / year.

Radiation level in Romania is very good compared to other countries with temperate climate, and differences, depending on geographical area, are very small. Solar radiation in Romania reaches maximum values in June, 1.49 kWh / msq/day, lows were recorded in February, 0.34 kWh /msq/day, wrote Green Report.<ref>http://romaniasolarenergy.blogspot.nl/</ref>

== Mountain bikes ==

Mountainbiking, in a wide, natural environment, is fun and healthy. You have an excellent mountainbike for 2000 EUR. If we would buy one bike for every 10 people, that would take 200 EUR out of a budget of 7,000. I think that's totally worth it. At the least you would get to ride a solid 1,5 hour a day (but probably you wouldn't have to worry too much about that)!

Bikes in this price range are wonderful to ride and don't break down. There are bikes with suspension in the center of the bike, and without, and we could buy some of both.

I understand it may not be fair to those who don't like mountainbiking, but come on! This is simply too good an opportunity to ignore.

Of course bikes are very versatile and can be used for more than recreation!

Democracy is where 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'. We want to establish a meritocracy, where the best people determine the ways for example education is organized. The scientific method allows the best methods to float to the surface because their result will be superior in a way that can be proven. Here it is apparent where the difference between a Democratic system and a meritocratic Scientific system arise. The scientific system allows for different opinions to be compared, the democratic system allows for only one opinion. Singularity versus multiplicity.

Be humble. Resolve conflicts you have with the 'status quo', forgive. Don't be a hippy. Be a regular person. IMO it's better if you wear a black business suit, or a clean pair of ordinary jeans, than if you were a robe, of hippy clothes. All that is ego, and you want to have as little of it as possible. Ego, and anger with the status quo (the bilderburgs) is at some point going to bring forth more negativity. The more humble we are, the more chance we have of succeeding. I know some of you are going to be sick, but what the heck. Luke 18:9-14. To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about[a] himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." (it's history man, isn't it beautiful!:))

Plant China 200 mil USD = 27,5 MW (2009) <ref> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_updraft_tower </ref>

277 hectares Diameter: 1878 meter. 30 MW = 2200 meter

= 342 mil USD = 30 MW (1995)<ref>http://educypedia.karadimov.info/library/Solar%20Updraft%20Towers.pdf</ref>

211 mil USD = 50 MW (2011)<ref>http://www.architecture.mit.edu/sites/all/files/attachments/lecture/SolarUpdraftTower_Project.pdf</ref>

Estimates of total costs range from 7 (for a 200 MW plant) and 21 (for a 5 MW plant) euro cents per kWh to 25-35 cents per kWh.<ref> http://physicaplus.org.il/zope/home/en/1124811264/1137833043_en </ref>

Estimate using own numbers (no heating, no lab, no machinery):

kw per day per person 0,6 x 365 x 40 x 0,25 = 2190 EUR out of total budget 7,000 EUR (0,6 x 3650).

General numbers:

Western European household = 9,5 = per person: 2,5

Off grid households = 0,2 - 6 <ref> http://www.cmhc.ca/publications/en/rh-pr/tech/01-103-e.html http://www.cmhc.ca/publications/en/rh-pr/tech/01-103-e.html </ref> = per person: 0,2 - 1,5

2,5 x ... = 9100 EUR

Average electricity use: <ref> http://www.nibud.nl/uitgaven/huishouden/gas-elektriciteit-en-water.html</ref>

It's hard to predict how much energy consumption we could save, but it's clear this is an important topic. If we use anywhere near as much as normal household, the project is not feasible.

Beamers require extra (darkened) space, but they make up for it over forty years because their replacement cost is a factor 100 lower (3 small television per person = 1500 EUR, Beamer = 15 EUR, space for beamer = approx 1000 EUR but possibly much cheaper because of earthship use).

Ipads use incredibly little energy, but they are expensive to purchase. Also they are not going to last 40 years, replacing them at least four times = 4 x 400 EUR. Compared to laptops they save about 40 EUR in energy over that period so that's negligible. We should discern between access to regular internet and computers that can do other tasks. Money should be set aside to provide technical people with up to date computers. Most people already own either an ipad or a laptop, so a rule could be made that people use only those, and bring their own. Then it should be calculated what it costs to provide internet over 40 years. Computers should be as sturdy as possible, with good and sturdy software (Linux). Possibly lower capacity desktops could be under 40 Watts as well. Asus EEE netbook pc's will fail extremely quickly. Apple computers are known to be durable.

Ideally internet would be provided by having computers that only do internet, and that use a central computer. They would consist of a screen, mouse/trackpad, keyboard, wifi antenna.

==== Recommendations ====

*It seems to be important to get accurate cost predictions when talking to a contractor.

*Replace computers by ipads and televisions by beamers.
